Coordinate 5 | From Rivers to Seas and the Poetry of Fluidity

'From Rivers to seas and the poetry of fluidity' is a multi-voiced exhibition project that reflects on water, land, and human relationships, on malleable realities, from rivers to seas, means for economic exchanges, war and domination policies, but also cultural exchanges, knowledge, resistances, and poetry.

'From Rivers to seas and the poetry of fluidity' concludes the COORDINATE project, a biennial program inaugurated in July 2023 that includes a series of artistic interventions around the new cultural hub of the Magazzini Generali, to engage in dialogue with the history and geography of the place, the maritime aspect that has shaped the world.

Francis Alÿs, Hamza Badran, Beatrice Catanzaro, Rajie Cook, Barry Flanagan, Jiří Kovanda, Sara Leghissa, Gustav Metzger, Jean-Luc Moulène and Hannes Zebedin.

The exhibition is inspired by the context in which the Magazzini Generali are located, nestled between river and sea, in a port area of a city, Livorno, founded on progressive promises, on free market, religious tolerance, diversity, and freedom that we wish to remember today.

Even if history has materialized from the grammars of dominance over lands, air, and waters, taking life and poetry away everywhere, humanity struggles between one form and another of being in the world and the artists in this exhibition bring attention to the situations, actions, and notions that remind us of this ambivalence, but above all, show us the possibility of an alternative.
